Packing groups reflect the degree of hazard:

- Packing Group II (Y rating): Medium danger. Intermediate performance requirements.

Woven polypropylene bags in hazardous materials transport
UN-rated woven polypropylene bags are widely used for the transport of solid hazardous materials in Packing Groups II and III, primarily chemicals, mineral powders, agricultural chemicals, and certain pharmaceutical raw materials. FIBCs used in hazardous materials transport are subject to UN testing and rating requirements as a separate packaging category. Not all FIBCs are suitable for hazardous materials transport. The bag must be specifically designed, tested, and rated for the application.
For electrostatic-sensitive or flammable hazardous products, the FIBC type (A, B, C, or D) determines whether the bag can be safely used in an atmosphere that contains flammable vapors or combustible dust. Depending on the product and operating environment, specialized FIBC designs such as Type B, C, or D may be required for products where electrostatic discharge from the bag itself could be an ignition source. Using a standard Type A FIBC with a flammable powder is a documented cause of industrial fire incidents.

To transport this product legally, they need UN-rated bags certified to at least Z performance level (Packing Group III) for solid contents at the fill weight they use. The bags must carry the correct UN mark, the packages must carry Class 9 labels and the UN number, and the truck must carry a shipping paper listing the product, quantity, and emergency contact information.
